Support to facilitate better understanding of the European integration process

The objective of the European Integration Fund is to facilitate better understanding of the EU and European Integration process aimed at bringing Serbia closer to EU. For this the EU has allocated 1.6 million euro from the EU Cards Programme. The Programme is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. Technical management of the fund has been assigned to Press Now, a Dutch NGO that has been actively engaged in civil society and media support in Serbia since 1993.

Following the Call for Proposals that was launched in May 2007 a total of 133 proposals were submitted of which 16 have been awarded with a grant. The awarded projects focus on a variety of issues regarding European integration aiming to improve knowledge on the EU and EU integration processes in specific target groups through educational efforts, dialogue initiation, and exchange of information. The goal is to raise awareness in Serbia on various aspects of European integration, the enlargement process and the impact of accession, through dissemination of information. The supported activities consist of seminars, workshops, media campaigns, working groups, study tours, information gathering, public debates, designing manuals and many other actions in field of legislation, education, information, environment, security policies, entrepreneurship, equal opportunities, etc.

Projects are implemented over a period of 9 to 12 months, covering the whole territory of Serbia, including undeveloped rural areas. Budgets of individual projects under this fund range from 50.000 to 150.000 euros and are funded from the EU.
